Do you see a pet on our website that you may be interested in adopting? Great! Let us tell you about our adoption process so that you know exactly what to expect in the coming days.
1. Submit an adoption application.
Submitting a complete adoption application on the Animal Rescue Friends website is the only way you can be considered to adopt. Please note that submitting an application is the first step in our adoption process. It does not guarantee you a pet.

CAT adoption application: https://www.animalrescuefriends.org/cat-adoption-application.html
2. Application Review.
This is not a ‘first come, first served’ process. Every application is thoroughly reviewed and we put a lot of care into matching our pets up with the applicant(s) that we feel best meet that pet’s individual needs.
3. Telephone Screening.
The applicants that represent the best potential fit for a pet will be contacted via telephone for a screening to further explore their pet expectations and preferences. The screening process benefits both the pet and the potential adopter as it helps to increase the likelihood that you will go home with a pet that's right for your family. The phone screening is usually done by the pets foster so you (the applicant) have the opportunity to talk directly to the person who knows the pet best. Whether you are looking for a cuddle buddy or a hiking companion, the phone screening will help ensure that you get a pet that's right for you and that the pet gets a loving, permanent home.
Changed your mind? No problem! Just let us know. We can close=out your application at any time, no questions asked.
4. Meet-and-Greet.
After the phone screening(s) are completed, if we feel you are the best match for the pet we will contact you to schedule a private meet-and-greet and/or a home check. This will give you, your family and your existing pets the opportunity to spend some time with the pet you are interested in adopting. In some cases virtual home checks may be completed.
Note: Meet-and-greets are only scheduled with approved adopters.
5. Finalizing the adoption!
At the conclusion of the meet and greet, if both parties want to proceed with the adoption, then an adoption agreement is signed, we provide you the pet’s health records and microchip information, we collect the adoption fee, take a photograph and you are then free to take your new best friend home!
Tracking a pet through the adoption process.
The Animal Rescue Friends website allows you to track a pet through the adoption process. Pets getting ready for adoption will appear in the ‘Pets Adoptable Soon’ page. When a pet is ready for adoption it will be moved to the ‘Adoptable Dogs’ or ‘Adoptable Cats’ page. When a dog or cat no longer appears on the ‘Adoptable’ pages it is an indication that an adoption is in process. (We briefly removed the animal from the website to prevent further applications from coming in while we finalize a pending adoption.) When the adoption is completed the pet will appear on our ‘ARF Adoptions!’ page.
Thank you for supporting animal rescue!
